From this week's class, i've learned that media has a great power within itself. Media not only affects our daily life, opinion, perspective, thinking etc, it is also provide us information, entertain us as well. Besides, media will form lots of community among ourselves by gathering a group of people with same thinking.
Media can be categorized into 2 categories which are Hot Media and Cool Media.
Hot Media is a media with big influential effect to us and requires lots of thinking from us to accept it; while Cool Media is a media with less influential effect and do not requires lots of thinking.
Nevertheless, media are spread by 2 kinds of model which are "elitist" and "populist".
Elitist, for example like political member, spread information or media with the effect of discrimination, which will break apart of ourselves into different communities and parties; while populist, for example celebrities, share their media or information by the liking of ourselves, they give us what we want, more likely to entertain us and fulfill our desires and needs.
From what I know about Marxism, Karl Marx tried to fight against Capitalism at that time. It is because capitalism made the society into 2 groups which are Owner/Master and Worker/Slave.
And after he analyzed capitalism, socialism appeared. People fought for fair division and power.
